USS Endeavour – First of Her Class

July 1, 2020 by danvoltzart

So, a few months back, I was commissioned to design a starship and create some cool art. The starship would be the setting for a Star Trek Adventures actual play podcast (for those who don’t know, an actual play podcast is kind of like a tabletop role-playing-game radio show… You get to watch other people play an RPG and it’s way more fun than it sounds!). Anyway, the Endeavour herself has some pretty nifty features. The most interesting is the […]

USS Defiant and USS Voyager – “Attack Pattern Omega”

June 21, 2020 by danvoltzart

This is the third piece in my Star Trek “crossovers” series; this particular painting features the USS Defiant and USS Voyager. I’ll be honest, I love both of these designs. Quite a bit. Voyager and Defiant are so different–but they share a lot of the same DNA. So it was fun to put them both in a painting together. As to who those phasers might be targeting–well, you’ll have to use your imagination. Maybe it’s the Romulans. Maybe it’s Klingon rebels. Maybe they’re […]

Tuvok – “Logic Prevails”

June 13, 2020 by danvoltzart

This piece of Star Trek: Voyager fan art is all about one of my favorite characters: Tuvok. Especially in the earlier seasons of Voyager, Tuvok is a fantastic character. Sure, he’s a Vulcan… but he also seems to have a lot of personality. And he’s quite snide, which I also like. Tim Russ, who played Tuvok, has certainly been around the Star Trek universe before and after Voyager. And I will always be thankful for the… well, playfulness, he brought to […]

USS Enterprise-E Art: “Explorers”

May 24, 2020 by danvoltzart

There’s that great line in Star Trek: Insurrection: “Can anyone remember when we used to be explorers?” Star Trek, at its heart, is about exploration. Sometimes that means exploring strange new worlds. Sometimes that means exploring the human condition. Often, it’s both. That’s what I love about Trek. And it’s something that I think both Discovery and Picard have done really nicely. So I wanted to showcase the Enterprise-E doing this favorite activity. A Sovereign-class starship, much is made of the […]

Seven of Nine – “Haunted”

March 23, 2020 by danvoltzart

So, I call this piece of Seven of Nine fan art “Haunted.” Because how could she not be? This piece was inspired by Seven’s appearance in the Star Trek: Picard episode “Stardust City Rag.” In particular, I was thinking about Seven’s conversation with Picard towards the end of the episode. And so I got thinking about Seven, about how haunted she might be. And this is the piece that resulted!

Star Trek Art – “The Flag Ship” – USS Enterprise-E and USS Enterprise-A

March 17, 2020 by danvoltzart

I’m calling this Star Trek piece “The Flag Ship,” because it features two of the most famous flag ships in Starfleet history: The USS Enterprise NCC-1701-A and the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-E. Captain Kirk and Captain Picard meet (again?). Mostly, the Constitution-refit class and the Sovereign class starships are two of my all time favorite designs. I had a very strong urge to draw them together–both movie-designed starships–and see what happens. I hope you enjoy the piece as much as I […]

Seven of Nine – Resistance is Futile

February 6, 2020 by danvoltzart

Resistance if futile. Or… it’s not. You’ll have to ask Seven of Nine. She probably knows. If you’ve been following along this site for a while, you probably know that Star Trek: Voyager is among my favorite Trek series. (Okay, look–my “favorite” Trek changes from day to day… that’s just how it is). Anyway, one of my favorite characters on Voyager was Seven of Nine. And if you’ve been paying attention to the Star Trek: Picard promotional material, you know that Seven […]

“Passing the Torch” – Enterprise NX-01 and USS Shenzhou

January 27, 2020 by danvoltzart

It’s no secret that I love Star Trek. And the most recent iteration of Trek is no exception. Star Trek Discovery is fantastic. (So is Star Trek Picard, but that’s a different post.) Anyway, I decided to create a piece that celebrated my love of Trek old and new. I call this piece “Passing the Torch.” I imagine Enterprise coming in for decommissioning around the same time Shenzhou was launched. It’s true, that timeline could be off. But with a little bit of imagination, […]

Romulan Warbird – Version 2

January 24, 2020 by danvoltzart

A couple of months ago, I finished a piece that featured a Romulan D’Deridex class Warbird. I was really happy with the way the spaceship turned out. But I was never super thrilled with the background. So the other day I decided to go back and create a new background for this piece. This is unusual for me. I’m one of those artists that is always looking forward. Once a piece is finished, I post it and move on–no matter […]

Captain Kathryn Janeway… and Her Coffee

December 19, 2019 by danvoltzart

Yes, yes… that “There’s coffee in that nebula” meme has been done to death. But it endures. Mostly because it’s, well, you can relate. I want coffee in the morning. Kathryn Janeway, captain of the starship Voyager wants coffee in the morning. Somehow it makes Janeway a bit more human, a bit less distant–and that’s just perfect for her character. So, here’s Captain Janeway, coffee mug in hand. The background represents the galaxy-spanning voyage she and her crew completed, from Delta […]
