Resistance if futile. Or… it’s not. You’ll have to ask Seven of Nine. She probably knows. If you’ve been following along this site for a while, you probably know that Star Trek: Voyager is among my favorite Trek series. (Okay, look–my “favorite” Trek changes from day to day… that’s just how it is). Anyway, one of my favorite characters on Voyager was Seven of Nine. And if you’ve been paying attention to the Star Trek: Picard promotional material, you know that Seven […]
It’s no secret that I love Star Trek. And the most recent iteration of Trek is no exception. Star Trek Discovery is fantastic. (So is Star Trek Picard, but that’s a different post.) Anyway, I decided to create a piece that celebrated my love of Trek old and new. I call this piece “Passing the Torch.” I imagine Enterprise coming in for decommissioning around the same time Shenzhou was launched. It’s true, that timeline could be off. But with a little bit of imagination, […]
A couple of months ago, I finished a piece that featured a Romulan D’Deridex class Warbird. I was really happy with the way the spaceship turned out. But I was never super thrilled with the background. So the other day I decided to go back and create a new background for this piece. This is unusual for me. I’m one of those artists that is always looking forward. Once a piece is finished, I post it and move on–no matter […]
Jodie Whittaker’s 13th Doctor has been amazing. She hasn’t always had the best storylines, but there’s no doubt about how well Whittaker fits into the role. She just is the Doctor. And it’s amazing. So I was inspired to create this portrait. I wanted to play around with colors and create something on the more dramatic side of things. Hence, the orange highlights. I’m really happy with how the piece turned out.
Here’s the last in my three piece TARDIS series. For this one, I was inspired by the weather conditions outside my Minnesota home: cold and frozen. Sure, the ice isn’t quite as bad as depicted in this piece of art… at least, not this year. Anyway, this piece finds the TARDIS on a frozen ice planet. Are there Martian Ice Warriors here? Maybe. Maybe not. As a side note, I have to say that painting all the ice mountains was […]
One of my favorite incarnations of Optimus Prime (and there have been many) is his Powermaster mode. First of all, the toy was great. And the way he was drawn in the Marvel comics by Geoff Senior and Andrew Wildman always made him look really cool. So I thought I’d take a stab at Powermaster Optimus Prime and see what I could come up. I’m rather pleased with the results!
Yes, yes… that “There’s coffee in that nebula” meme has been done to death. But it endures. Mostly because it’s, well, you can relate. I want coffee in the morning. Kathryn Janeway, captain of the starship Voyager wants coffee in the morning. Somehow it makes Janeway a bit more human, a bit less distant–and that’s just perfect for her character. So, here’s Captain Janeway, coffee mug in hand. The background represents the galaxy-spanning voyage she and her crew completed, from Delta […]
This piece is the second in my Doctor Who TARDIS fan art series. The first piece you can see here. The second piece is my attempt at depicting the time vortex, through which the TARDIS travels (if you watch the show, you know this…). You never know where the time vortex will take you… well, okay, the Doctor knows. And the TARDIS knows. But the point is that adventure is always just around the corner. And that’s exciting! It’s […]
I love ships that feel like a home. That’s just one of the reasons that the Rocinante is a great ship. It *definitely* feels like a home. It’s hard to imagine Holden, Naomi, Amos, and Alex living anywhere else (or eating lasagna anywhere else). If you haven’t been watching the Expanse, you’re missing out. It’s easily one of the best science fiction shows in the last decade–if not longer. (I’m speaking as a life-long, die-hard Star Trek fan.) I’ve […]

So, obviously, I have an undying love of Star Trek. But here’s the thing: I like Star Wars *too*. Isn’t that pretty wild? Anyway, in anticipation of December’s newest Star Wars film (Rise of Skywalker), I decided to create this piece featuring Rey. I changed up my usual aspect ratio a bit, and found that it added a nice bit of drama to the piece. I also changed up my colors a little, to make it more dynamic. I really […]
