I was asked to do this piece as part of a commission. At first, I found myself way outside of my comfort zone. I don’t paint a lot of interiors–and interiors of cathedrals (or cathedral like buildings) aren’t a big feature in my repertoire. But I’m really happy I took on this project–it was a lot of fun to stretch my legs on this particular piece. If you look close, you’ll notice the Doctor’s TARDIS in there. It’s definitely a […]
Jodie Whittaker’s 13th Doctor has been amazing. She hasn’t always had the best storylines, but there’s no doubt about how well Whittaker fits into the role. She just is the Doctor. And it’s amazing. So I was inspired to create this portrait. I wanted to play around with colors and create something on the more dramatic side of things. Hence, the orange highlights. I’m really happy with how the piece turned out.
Here’s the last in my three piece TARDIS series. For this one, I was inspired by the weather conditions outside my Minnesota home: cold and frozen. Sure, the ice isn’t quite as bad as depicted in this piece of art… at least, not this year. Anyway, this piece finds the TARDIS on a frozen ice planet. Are there Martian Ice Warriors here? Maybe. Maybe not. As a side note, I have to say that painting all the ice mountains was […]
This piece is the second in my Doctor Who TARDIS fan art series. The first piece you can see here. The second piece is my attempt at depicting the time vortex, through which the TARDIS travels (if you watch the show, you know this…). You never know where the time vortex will take you… well, okay, the Doctor knows. And the TARDIS knows. But the point is that adventure is always just around the corner. And that’s exciting! It’s […]
The 12th Doctor got off to something of a rocky start. But once Capaldi settled into his role, he was amazing. I don’t know that I can say 12 is my favorite Doctor… but if you backed me into a corner, Capaldi is probably the name I’d choose. Especially in his later seasons, he brought such raw compassion to the role that it was hard not to like. But he could also tell people shut up, which was nice too. […]
The TARDIS is a wonderful spaceship. Well. Space and time ship. You get the idea. Anyway, one of the things I always loved about the TARDIS is that it doesn’t take the Doctor where she wants to go. The TARDIS takes the Doctor where she needs to go. And that’s pretty amazing. This piece definitely depicts the Doctor headed into danger. I tried to create the sense that this is precisely where she needs to be. If you’d like to purchase a […]
I’ve always really enjoyed Doctor Who. There’s something about the romantic vision of space travel it presents that really resonates with me (and I don’t necessarily mean kissy-romance… I guess I mean romance more in the classical sense). Anyway, Donna was always one of my favorite companions, so I thought I’d create a piece that showcases her and David Tennant’s Doctor. (For my money, “Silence in the Library” is one of the all time greatest episodes of Doctor Who). If […]
I was thinking the other day that Captain Janeway and the 13th Doctor would get along splendidly, so I decided to draw it! I imagine the Doctor as exuberant and joyful, and Janeway as patient and kind–but they both immediately recognize the competency and humanity of the other.
