The first we saw of a Prometheus class or Prometheus-type starship was in the film Prometheus. And it was fascinating. The Prometheus has the same design aesthetic as any other Alien-universe type vessel. But this starship was new. It was high-tech. It was everything the Nostromo wasn’t. Which makes sense, once you realize it was funded by a billionaire. Peter Weyland wanted to meet his maker, and he spared no expense in building the starship to do it. Of course, […]
To Ash, science office of the Nostromo, the xenomorph was a “perfect organism.” It’s hard to shake that description, and just how much it has shaped the entire Alien universe. It certainly presents a narrative challenge, after all–how can a xenomorph be a perfect organism if your heroes defeat the creature in every film? Somehow, the xenomorph has never lost its edge. And it has this combination of elegance, beauty, and ferocity. You would not want to come across one. […]
You know one thing you don’t want to sneak up behind you? A neomorph. These variations on xenomorphs, introduced in Alien: Covenant, are fast and mean. And, somehow, I feel like they’re even creepier than the original Alien creature. They aren’t as elegant–they don’t straddle that line between beauty and horror the way HR Giger’s original design does. But they are freakin’ creepy. So I decided to paint them! Because… of course I did? (Sometimes when things get in my […]
Xenomorphs are so much fun to paint. They’ve always been one of my favorite subjects (H.R. Giger certainly knew what he was doing, and everyone else who’s had a hand in evolving the look of the creature since the original Alien film deserves a lot of credit.) So, this piece was definitely inspired by Alien. The corridor has a very Nostromo feel to it. That’s intentional! I hope you like the final look as much as I do.
This piece has been in my head for ages… and I’m really happy I was finally able to get it out on paper. This one’s inspired by the film Aliens. I had the urge to draw some Colonial Marines… and as you can tell by the lighting, they’re in for some bad news shortly. (“How could they cut the power, man?! They’re animals!”) Anyway, I wanted to emphasize a pretty simple color palette on this one, but I used the shoulder […]
This piece involved all kinds of experimentation, but I’m really quite pleased with how it turned out. If you’re familiar with Alien, you already know what you’re looking at (and to be honest, this is the Xenomorph variation seen in Aliens–I’ve always been a fan of the ridged head… it looks gnarly). Anyway, here’s some Xenomorph fan art. They sure look cool… but I would not want to run into one in a hallway. Or on a spaceship. Because in […]
