The USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D, as seen in Star Trek The Next Generation, was always an explorer first. That’s one of the things I love most about that ship. It’s not made for battle, not designed for speed (though it’s not slow by any means) or agility. It’s simply designed to explore strange, new worlds.

In this piece, the Enterprise is exploring a nebula. And in this case, the nebula is heavily inspired by some of the photos taken by the Hubble Space Telescope over the years.

Obviously, this is the kind of Star Trek that I’m really into: the exploration and discovery. When I look at this painting, I can imagine living on the Enterprise and setting a course for the unknown.
